The Fall
Guy Story
The Fall
Guy is a strong shot of BMX chased with enough MTB to take the edge off. Everything
the Unknown Stuntman needs, nothing they don’t.
Wheels
The Fall Guy is designed around a 24" wheel, and a 14mm axle BMX hub. The
Fall Guy is intended to be used for trails, street and park, We firmly believe
the 14mm BMX hub is the best tool for this application. The mechanical design
of most commonly available BMX hubs is simple, serviceable, and extremely robust.
These are good qualities in bike parts, especially one so critical to the function
of the bike, and so expensive to replace. If you want to run your Fall Guy with
a standard 3/8" axle BMX hub, you will require a set step-down washers.
Finally, the Fall Guy uses 24" wheels exclusively. Stronger wheels, shorter
chain stays, and good x-up clearance without long top tubes and slack head tube
angles. Works for us, but we don’t claim the Fall Guy is for everyone.
26" wheel hard-cores will have to look elsewhere. We appreciate all the
interest, but we currently have no plans to produce a 26" Fall Guy. Plenty
of great 26" wheel bikes on the market. Try Black Market, Simple Bike Co.,
Santa Cruz, etc...Forks
The Fall Guy is designed around a 460mm axle to crown fork.. Two very good forks
come from the factory with this axle to crown height, the Manitou Gold Label
80mm, and the Sherman Jumper. Many 32mm stanction Marzocchi;s can be custom
lowered to achieve this height, but none are available from the factory this
low. 80mm Fox Forx also feature a very low axle to crown measurement. We strongly
recommend outfitting your Fall Guy with a “short” fork. Chances
are good you paid a premium to get a Fall Guy, so why not make it handle the
way it’s supposed to? Ultimately, personal preference, riding style and
budget will dictate what fork you use.
Brakes
The Fall Guy is designed to use a V-Brake exclusively. Our 1" seat stays
create an extremely stiff structure to resist braking forces. Frankly, I haven’t
found a brake (including discs) which offers a better combination of power,
modulation, weight, and crash-ability than a V-brake. No, they aren’t
my first choice for riding in the rain, or sailing down a mountain, but for
an application like the Fall Guy, I’m confident there is no better brake
choice. Set your bike up with good pads, and a linear cable and you’ll
be stoked. They tuck neatly under the stays, and no chrome rims required. Please
don’t ask us for disc brakes on the Fall Guy. Like a 26" wheeled
Fall Guy, it ain’t gonna happen.
Pricing
Fall Guy Frame including head set and BB (painted to match frame): $650
Fall Guy frame + Manitou Gold Label 80mm/TA fork + Thomson seat post : $1050
Summary
Do you require 26" wheels, disc brakes, gears, and a chain guide? The Fall
Guy is not your bike.
However, if you idea of a good time starts with is a clean looking bike, dialed
geometry and reliable components, consider the Fall Guy.
Technical
Information
Minimum chain stay length is 14.75".
71/71 head and seat tube angles. 12.375" BB height. Head/seat tube angle
and BB height depend on fork and tire choice. The specs listed are based on
460mm a-c fork and 2.3 tires. It’s worth mentioning this combo works pretty
damn well, and should at least be tried.
Size 10 Adidas Super Skates with 175mm cranks have enough x-up and (in theory)
bar spin clearance. Extremely short forks, and pedals with a lot of offset will
cut into this.
Frame size: one size seems to fit damn near everyone.
Riders from 5'1" to 6'3"have been happy on the Fall Guy. Go figure.
Top tube measures 21.9" c-c along the tube. Basically fits like a 21"
BMX frame.
Seat tube is 9.5" c-c
100% 4130 Aircraft Certified. This material’s
